Troop 507 has always
encouraged parents to attend our outdoor activities,
including our campouts. In recent years, Scouting, as
well as churches and other organizations that have adults
working with youth, have instituted standards and
procedures to help protect youth from potential abuse. In
order to insure the safety of scouts, the Troop Committee
is asking every parent who may want to participate in
these types of activities to become an "At Large"
member of the troop committee by completing an Adult
Leader application and completing the BSA Youth
Protection Training course online. The
application form, which you can pick up at a troop
meeting, allows the BSA to perform a background
screening function that serves to protect our youth.
Filling it out will not obligate you to any meetings or
other time commitments beyond those you may already have
volunteered for. The Youth Protection Training course
insures that adults who participate in our activities
understand the regulations and procedures followed in
Scouting that help to protect youth. Another way to
complete the Youth Protection Training course is to
attend a training session, which is frequently offered at
the adult leaders Roundtable meeting on the first
Wednesday of each month at Wesley United Methodist Church.
Please contact the
Scoutmaster if you have any questions.
